Edible Spotlight: Sweet Baby Radish

The All-America Selections judges couldn't stop talking about Sweet Baby's color—both inside and out—along with how remarkably uniform the shape and size were from one radish to the next. And talk about quick: this little beauty reaches maturity in just 40 to 45 days, making it perfect for gardeners who love fast results.

Foliage: Green. Fruit: Purple on the outside, white to white with pink and purple on the inside. Fruit shape: Oval. Height: 10–24 inches. Habit: Upright.

Once the soil has warmed up and you can work it in spring, drop those seeds half an inch deep and about 1.5 to 2 inches apart. When the tops pop up, thin by pulling every other plant—toss those thinnings in a salad if they're big enough! For a steady harvest all season, keep sowing every week as long as you've got at least 45 days before your last expected harvest or hard frost.
